Description

The High School Girls Softball Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the high school girls softball program. This includes fostering athletic skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. The coach will also hold a teaching position within the district, be assigned one additional coaching duty, and be required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to support team transportation needs.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program Leadership

 

  • Plan, organize, and conduct all practices, competitions, and program activities.
  • Develop a comprehensive program that includes skill development, conditioning, strategy, and safety.
  • Promote a positive, growth-oriented team culture.

 

Student Development

 

  • Teach and model sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and strong character.
  • Support student-athletes in maintaining academic eligibility and balancing athletics with academics.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to help athletes set and reach performance goals.

 

Safety & Compliance

 

  • Ensure all practices and competitions comply with state athletic association and district policies.
  • Maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications and follow proper injury prevention and management protocols.
  • Supervise athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions.
  • Supervision of locker rooms, facilities, and travel behavior 
  • Enforcing the athletic handbook
  • Collaboration with the administration regarding disciplinary issues
  • Operate district transportation (e.g., activity buses) for team travel as required, upon obtaining CDL.

 

Program Operations

 

  • Organize and maintain equipment, uniforms, facilities, and inventory.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, and school staff.
  • Coordinate travel logistics, scheduling, and game management with the athletic department.
  • Assist with off-season conditioning and camps, where applicable.
  • Collaborate with middle school and youth feeder programs to ensure vertical alignment of skills, expectations, and program culture.
  • Promote long-term program sustainability through consistent athlete development, community engagement, and support of participation at all grade levels.

  • Contribute to a unified softball program vision by coordinating with feeder coaches on fundamentals, off-season opportunities, and athlete readiness.

 

Team & Staff Collaboration

 

  • Work collaboratively with other program coaches to ensure vertical alignment.
  • Mentor assistant coaches and contribute to a cohesive coaching staff.
  • Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development.

 

Qualifications

Required

 

  • Valid teaching certificate in assigned instructional area (or eligibility for certification).
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as required by the district.
  • Knowledge of softball rules, techniques, and strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to model and uphold high standards of ethics and professionalism.

 

Preferred

 

  • Experience coaching at the high school level.
  • Experience managing or assisting with a comprehensive athletic program.

 

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • One additional coaching duty to be determined by the district.
  • Teaching responsibilities aligned with district instructional needs, including planning, instruction, assessment, and classroom management.
  • Model and reinforce district mission, vision, and values, including accountability, service to others, and fostering individual purpose in student-athletes.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Work occurs both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Requires evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours.
  • Moderate physical activity, including demonstrating drills and lifting equipment.
  • Must meet physical and regulatory requirements necessary to obtain and maintain a CDL for driving district vehicles.

 

Evaluation

 

Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and Building Principal per district policy.
