Description

Position Title:              Grounds Keeper/Bus Driver

 

JOB SUMMARY: Mena Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a School Groundskeeper and Bus Driver. This position involves maintaining the school grounds in excellent condition and ensuring the safe transportation of students to and from school. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and attractive environment for our students, staff, and community.




QUALIFICATIONS: Hold current Certified Driver’s License (CDL)

Pass a physical from a certified practitioner and cleared background check

Previous school bus driving experience preferred



REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor



ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Groundskeeper Duties

 

Maintain School Grounds: Regularly mow lawns, trim hedges, water plants, remove weeds, and manage other landscaping tasks to ensure the school grounds are neat and attractive.

 

Seasonal Maintenance: Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal, leaf collection, and irrigation system management.

 

Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure the school grounds are hazardous and debris-free. Conduct regular inspections to identify and rectify any potential safety issues.

 

Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, and other tools. Schedule regular maintenance and repairs as needed.

 

Event Preparation: Assist in setting up and breaking down outdoor areas for school events, including sports events, assemblies, and other activities.

 

Waste Management: Manage and dispose of waste and recycling materials from the school grounds.

 

Bus Driver Duties

 

Student Transportation: Safely transport students to and from school, following established routes and schedules.

 

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all state and federal regulations regarding school bus operation. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.

 

Behavior Management: Maintain order on the bus, ensuring students follow safety rules and behave appropriately during transit.

 

Communication: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation issues, schedules, and any incidents.

 

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, and vehicle maintenance.

 

Qualifications

 

High School Diploma or GED: Required.

 

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL): With Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.

 

Experience: Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field. Experience as a school

bus driver is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects,

operating machinery, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

 

Background Check: Successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Working Conditions

         

Environment: Primarily outdoor work in various weather conditions.

 

Hours: Full-time position with a typical schedule that includes early morning and afternoon hours for bus driving, with groundskeeping tasks performed during the day.
