Position Title:              Behavior Interventionist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field required.  Prior job experience in related fields preferred.  Any alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and reasonable. 

 

REPORTS TO: AE Director

 

JOB GOALS: To provide leadership and direction at the school level, working to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program.  In addition, the BI works directly and aggressively with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance.  Under the supervision of the AE Director and the building principals, the BI will provide diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The performance responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Come to work each day adequately prepared, both physically and mentally, to perform the following duties:
  • Effectively support student acquisition of core curriculum and content standards
  • Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; and implementing positive behavior strategies 
  • Facilitate team meetings with the identified student’s teachers and parents
  • Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions
  • Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress
  • Regard assessment as a joint venture through which both student and teacher understanding is enhanced
  • Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors
  • Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in the implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms
  • Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive
  • Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills 
  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions
  • Serve as a consultant to administrators, teachers and parents
  • Perform other duties as assigned 




   Physical Demands

 

  • Frequent travel to school district offices and classrooms

  • Frequent walking throughout various buildings

  • Often sitting at desk for extended periods

  • Standing for limited periods of time
  • Moderate lifting and carrying from 15 to 30 pounds
  • Manual dexterity to use office equipment
  • Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
