Description | Position Title: Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS: Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Prior experience in building care
and cleaning and maintenance operations, or an equivalent combination of both
is preferred.
REPORTS TO: Head Custodian
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The performance responsibilities of this position may include but not be limited to the following:
- Come to work each day adequately prepared, both physically and mentally, to perform the following duties:
- Cleans and polishes lighting and wall fixtures, wood and/or other surfaces and trim
- Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, libraries, cafeterias, auditoriums, gymnasiums, res rooms, corridors, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas
- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floor
- Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies
- Dust furniture and equipment. Polishes metalwork
- Washes walls, ceiling and woodwork
- Washes windows, door panels and sills
- Empties wastebaskets and waste containers
- Transports trash and waste to disposal area
- Replenishes bathroom supplies
- Replaces light bulbs
- Transports equipment or tools throughout the building
- Sets up equipment, tables and chairs as needed
- Assists in maintaining building security at all times
- Maintains current knowledge in those areas related to the performance of job duties, including matters dealing with safety regulations and procedures, hazardous materials and asbestos handling through attendance at District in-service programs
- Maintain the grounds by picking up trash and sweeping outside entrances
- Perform any additional duties within the scope of this position as assigned by the Head Custodian, Principal, Director of Student Support Services and Superintendent
Physical Demands
· Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls
- Reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color ision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
